Interior Design As a Profession
01/28/2021
Interior Design is the science and art of improving the interior of a structure to create a happier and healthier environment for those using the space. A qualified interior designer is typically someone who studies, plans, coordinates and oversees these improvement projects. They are responsible for deciding how to best utilize the space, what types of furnishings and accessories will work best in the space, what sorts of activities will take place within the space, and so much more. An interior designer can often be considered the brains behind a successful project because of their vast knowledge of interior space and design.
Often an interior designer will collaborate with other professionals to execute a design concept. For example, an interior designer might collaborate with a carpenter, architect, interior decorator, and interior lighting company to come up with a tasteful floor plan for a newly constructed high-rise building.
An interior designer's job is not only about coming up with creative concepts that can make a room look better, it is also about selecting the appropriate materials and furniture to maximize that space's functionality. Interior designers spend a lot of time choosing furniture and materials that will make rooms aesthetically pleasing while still being functional and useful. Interior decorators also select lighting and fixtures that are flattering to the size, style, color, and type of furniture and fixtures that they are using. An interior designer's professional experience in the field of design and decorating make him or her well-versed in current trends and styles that are sought-after by the public.
